Pilot Project
In March 2006 the College converted newly available office space at the Cumbernauld Campus
Learning Centre and Library into a student group workroom. We wished to develop this student
space further by introducing a wipe-board wall, SmartBoard and Desktop PC and to research the
use of PDA/MP3 equipment by students for audio/visual podcast, or learncast content.
The SLiCpod was available to all students as a group study space and was kitted out with:
- WipeWall
- SmartBoard/PC
- Microphone/Popshield
- Podcast Software
- Teleprompt Software
- Wireless Keyboard/Mouse
- Surround Sound Speaker/MP3/MP4 Docking Stations
Dell Wireless PDAs, Apple iPod Video and Apple iPod Shuffles were issued to participating pilot group
students and staff for academic session 06/07. There was recognition at the outset of this project
that some learners may not have access to the Internet or PC at home and a key role of the SLiCpod
was to facilitate those learners to dock, re-charge and download. Power adapters were also issued
to students with iPod equipment to allow recharging at home.
On completion of the project the mobile equipment was returned to the Learning Centre and Library as
short-term lending stock for all students from session 07/08
